How-To Use AI Without Sacrificing Your Authenticity

Hello everyone! Let's talk about AI. I'm going to show you how I use AI to improve my writing, without sounding like a robot.

The Challenge

I'll be the first to admit that writing isn't my strongest skill. I can talk endlessly about a topic, but when I sit down at my computer to write, my mind often goes blank.

Earlier in my career, most of my writing involved technical manuals, process documents, and software training guides. IT and Marketing Ops training guides aren’t exactly the most exciting content. (“Click here to login.” – BLAHH) I was writing to "teach" only, not to engage or inspire people.

Now that I’m marketing my business, writing has become a constant part of my job—whether it's for social media, emails, presentations, etc. I always have something to write, and it gets slightly overwhelming for me.

The Solution

Thankfully, with tools like ChatGPT and other AI technologies available for free, I've found a way to write more efficiently.

Here’s how I do it:

First, when I have a topic in mind, I use my iPhone Notes app to dictate my thoughts as if I'm explaining them to someone. Somehow, speaking out loud is easier for me than sitting down to type at a computer. Once I've finished talking through my ideas, I copy the text into ChatGPT and ask it to "clean it up."

Next, I review the AI-generated text, making any additional edits or adding any details to complete the content. That’s it! I primarily use this method for newsletters and blogs, but it’s also useful for one-pagers, emails, and really, any writing that needs to be clear and efficient.

The output from ChatGPT is essentially an organized version of your original thoughts. This is crucial because it ensures you don’t lose the authenticity of your own voice.

Real Examples:

Version 1 - From my iPhone Notes App

Version 2 - ChatGPT  "cleaned up version"

Version 3 - You're reading it! :)
